World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.
The level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a measure of the damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done using the item's level.
On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.
Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. try what she says are used to give items extra damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by naming them.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. Like the base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.
Moreover some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has a success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
